About Tankerton Beach

The grass slopes and shingle beach at Tankerton are popular with families during the summer.

'The Street', a natural strip of shingle on clay bank, runs out to sea at right angles to the coast for a distance of about half a mile, and is revealed at low tide. It is possible to walk out along it as well as swim either side in safe, sandy bottomed shallows. It is an ideal place for paddling and exploring sea life. A view of The Street can be seen on the hilltop lawns of the Tankerton Slopes.

The Slopes are home to the largest population in England of the rare Hog’s Fennel. It is a popular spot for walking the dog and cycling. On the rare occasion of snow in winter, it is the perfect venue for sledging! There are many privately owned beach huts here and Whitstable Castle is close by.

Tankerton beach is awarded a blue flag.
