King George VI Memorial Park was formed out of the grounds of East Cliff Lodge, the home for over fifty years of the internationally influential Jewish philanthropist Sir Moses Montefiore. He lived into his 101st year, being born in 1784 and dying in 1885.
The Lodge, sadly, was demolished in1954 and the King George VI Memorial Park created from the estate grounds. The stable courtyard still survives and built against it's side you will find the early nineteenth-century Italianate glasshouse, restored in 2002.
King George V1 Memorial Park, often wrongly referred to as ‘King George V’ Park, is a pleasant place for visitors at all times of the year, and forms the start of invigorating cliff top walks to Broadstairs.
It's also an enjoyable place to have a cup of tea or an ice cream during the summer months, to walk dogs, or relax generally.
